The Quintessence of a Cafe

One of the things I love most about a cafe is energy and the never ending moments of inspiration. Everything from the sounds of the expresso machine, to enjoying a cup of coffee or tea.
Underrated in charm and quality, cafes serve as the perfect place to brainstorm new ideas, meet a friend for croissants and coffee, reading the paper or a novel. So it makes sense that many past painters and writers have flocked to cafes to write and explore new concepts. It's the perfect venue to start the day and remember that life isn't something to be rushed, it's something to be sipped and savored.

Artist Spotlight: Farhad Moshiri

Bold, beautiful, and ironic. Iranian artist Farhad Moshiri installation, "Life is Beautiful" features hundreds of knives stabbing the wall at the Pinault Foundation's Palazzo Grassi. Moshiri evokes a sense of the Dada tradition using found objects and creating art out of the most unlikely object, knives. This is a brilliant conceptual piece of work. See more by Moshiri here.

Artist Spotlight: Guy Laramée

Have books found a new medium? Artist Guy Laramée creates landscapes and structures out of books and encyclopedias, in his series entitled, Biblios and The Great Wall. The end result are beautifully detailed book sculptures that are as captivating as it is unique. I imagine the artist process to be intriguing, sculpting layer upon layer, it is truly amazing. The artists works are a lovely reminder of how creativity can turn a simple book into a creative medium, leaving any book lover or anyone for that matter in awe.
